Woodland Art is a distinct style of Native art that sees beyond the exterior of the subjects and depicts the spirit through an internal view. Popularized in the late 1960's by Norval Morrisseau, an inspirational Ojibwe artist from Northern Ontario, the style often depicts stories and symbols from Native North American beliefs. Woodland Art subjects typically include things like people, plants, animals, spirit, and strong symbolism, blending them with bold distinct shapes, strong lines and colours.
